This is what you need for a fresh start this new year

More than the promise of a fresh start, the new year gives us hope for a better future ahead. To achieve that, we usually set goals at the beginning of the year to help us change for the better. More often than not though, we tend to drop these resolutions after just a few weeks! Don’t worry if you’re feeling stuck and frustrated! Find out the secret to breaking bad habits once and for all, and get back up there and start again.

The secret is to start small. This means developing good habits to instill change. Here are simple tips to help you stick to your habits faster:

Reward yourself

After doing the action or behavior, give yourself a reward.  The more immediate, the better.

Be consistent

Do the action in the same place at the same time. If you want to develop a regular workout routine, schedule it on the same day every day in the same area so your environment can act as a trigger for the behavior.

Replace your habit with another

Refrain from the bad, unhealthy habits of the past year and replace them with the new. Your brain would opt to go with the most recent habit you do.

Deepen your motivation

At the core of developing a habit is your motive. The more significant it is, the more you’ll push through despite difficulties at the start. Make sure your habit is aligned with your values.

Be realistic

Although you should shoot for the stars, be realistic in the sense that you’re self-aware and know yourself enough if this habit fits your lifestyle. Go slowly but surely on transforming your life.

Improve little by little

Track your progress and change it up by making small improvements to your actions.
